Youth of the Year
“The staff at the Club is incredibly inspiring and they helped me see that I can preserve through challenges. When I have troubles at home or school, I know that I can turn to the staff for advice, guidance or just to make me laugh. Coming to the Boys & Girls Club has been a life changing experience for me. Not only have I built closer relationships with other Club members and staff, I also had the chance to learn more about myself. The Leaders in Training Program inspired me to set goals and really learn what being a leader meant. I am so thankful to the Club for this experience because I really believe that it changed my life. The Boys & Girls Club of Westminster showed me that I am good enough and that I am a leader. The Club has inspired me to work harder and become my best self. I am beyond grateful.”
Junior Youth of the Year
“The Boys & Girls Club of Westminster has challenged me in so many ways that I never knew were possible to experience. I am more focused in school and I have become more social with people outside my family. The Club helped me find out who I am and also inspired me to express my talents. “
Elementary Youth of the Year
As Elementary Youth of the Year, Annabell has already taught us all so much! She told our judges that the Club taught her about “conflict resolution” and showed her how to be a leader. She said, “bullying is a big problem for kids today – especially big kids- and they need to use more conflict resolution to solve their problems!” Get ready Boys & Girls Club of America – this girl is really special and she is setting her sights on becoming National Youth of the Year.
As one of our youngest members, Layla was named Rising Star because of her leadership potential and her goal of spreading kindness throughout the Club and the Westminster community. Her favorite program at the Club is Art because it allows her to express her feelings. She said coming to the Boys & Girls Club is the best part of her day.
The Capree Brown Heart of a Champion Award
Our first Club graduate is the namesake of this special award.
Capree was born premature, with severe medical issues that have required years of surgeries, leaving him legally blind. Capree is a gentle soul with an amazingly positive attitude. Capree inspires everyone he meets and leaves them with a smile. After graduation, Capree went on to work at Carroll Hospital where he continues to inspire those around him. When asked about his time at the Boys & Girls Club of Westminster Capree said, “this is my home and these are my people. I feel safe here.”
Heart of a Champion 2019-2020
In Capree’s honor the Club selects one member each year who inspires others through their kindness and positivity. Jailen is always engaged, works hard and inspires those around her to work harder. Jailen doesn’t seek recognition, it is just natural for her to motivate others to be their best. Jailen was a previous Youth of the Year recipient and is currently a Leader in Training at the Club – and a straight A student to boot!
