"The Positive Place for Kids"

BGC Events

The Boys & Girls Club of Westminster hosted the First Annual Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast honoring the Westminster City Police Department on Saturday, February 19, 2011.  More than 150 people came out to support this fun event including Delegate Nancy Stocksdale, Mayor Kevin Utz, Chief Jeffrey Spaulding of the Westminster Police Department and a host of other community leaders.  BGCW enjoys a partnership with Carroll County Public Schools and McDaniel College and several teachers, professors and McDaniel faculty members were also on hand to support the event.

Guests were treated to unlimited hotcakes, sausage and beverages served up by BGC staff and members of the BGCW board including, Steve Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Carroll County Public Schools.  Volunteers from Kohl’s Department store, along with several friends of the Club, also served as hosts, waiters and bussers.

During the weeks preceding the event, Boys & Girls Club members were asked to consider the many positive ways the police impact the community. These ideas were captured in a poem and read aloud to Chief Spaulding by club members Raven Nelson, Shirley Tucker, and Trejan Tucker during the event.  Certificates were also given to members of the police department, sworn and civilian, as a show of appreciation.

A great time was had by all!
